Greater Houston Community Foundation Surpasses $3 Billion in Grants

Strategic philanthropy transforming and strengthening communities

HOUSTON, TX (February 24, 2026) – Greater Houston Community Foundation is proud to announce it has exceeded $3 billion in grants distributed, a milestone that underscores the organization’s transformative impact over its 30-year‑ history. This achievement is powered by the generosity of Community Foundation donors and their longstanding commitment to strengthening communities locally and globally through high-impact, strategic philanthropy.

Founded in 1995, the Community Foundation was established to serve as a trusted philanthropic partner for individuals and families, as well as professional advisors who support them, along with foundations and businesses committed to creating meaningful change. Over the past three decades, it has grown into one of the region’s leading philanthropic institutions, managing more than $1.3 billion in assets, advising multigenerational families, supporting corporate giving, and convening community leaders in moments of crisis and opportunity. Today, it stands as a central hub for Houston philanthropy, distributing 64% of its grants across Texas, with nearly half (47%) strengthening nonprofit partners throughout Greater Houston.

“We are honored to partner with donors whose generosity continues to shape the future of Greater Houston,” said Steve Maislin, President & CEO of Greater Houston Community Foundation. “Crossing the three-billion-dollar mark in grantmaking represents far more than financial support—it represents families supported, futures reshaped, and neighborhoods given the chance to thrive. This milestone underscores the real, human impact made possible through intentional and meaningful generosity.”

At the core of the Community Foundation’s vision is a deep belief in the transformative power of community-driven philanthropy—an approach rooted in partnership, local insight, and a shared commitment to collective progress. Greater Houston Community Foundation understands that resilient, vibrant communities are built when community partners, resident leaders, businesses, and philanthropic funders come together to meet local needs. These collaborations make it possible to achieve what no single institution or individual could accomplish alone, accelerating long-term progress that strengthens communities and expands opportunity..

“This milestone is a profound reflection of what’s possible when generosity meets purpose,” said Bob Harvey, Governing Board Chair at the Community Foundation. “Lasting change happens when donors and community partners work side-by-side aligning resources, sharing insight, and investing in the long-term well-being of our region. Our donors’ commitment to co-investing in community priorities is strengthening Houston today and building a region where every resident can thrive.”

“What makes the Community Foundation so impactful is the way it partners with donors to turn generosity into lasting community change,” said Lacey Fluor Goossen, Chief Operating Officer of Texas Crude Energy and former board member of Greater Houston Community Foundation. “Surpassing $3 billion in grants distributed reflects decades of thoughtful stewardship and collaboration—proof that when donors come together with a shared commitment to Houston’s future, the collective impact is far greater than any one of us could achieve alone.”

Greater Houston Community Foundation is proud to partner with those who are passionate about making a difference, providing flexible philanthropic solutions, data-informed strategies, and collaborative opportunities that turn charitable vision into measurable, lasting impact.  Creating lasting change through collective impact is not a one-time effort—it is a long-term commitment to working together, grounded in shared vision, trusted relationships, and a belief that collaboration leads to greater possibilities.
